My Thai Wedding is based in Chiang Mai because our directors fell in love with this amazing city some 14 years ago when they first visited. Chiang Mai so often captures the hearts of those that visit.

Capital of the ancient Lanna kingdom, Chiang Mai has become the city of artists, health spas and shopping all rolled into one, now benefitting from some magnificent new shopping malls such as Maya, Central Festival and Promenada where you will find the latest international fashions alongside more Thai style clothing, not to mention a truly mouth watering selection of restaurants, cafes and bars.

One of our favourite things about this magical city is that you can escape from the daily hustle and bustle and swap it for the lush mountain scenery in just 20 minutes. There are so many wonderful places you can visit just a short motorbike, car or Tuk-Tuk ride away.

Doi Suthep, the mountain that is home to the famous Wat Phra Tat Doi Suthep Buddhist temple, dominates the skyline to the East of the city and is one of many mountains that pretty much create a bowl that Chiang Mai is nestled within. We highly recommend a visit to the temple and this will afford you the most wonderful views of the city below. Thai people put great importance on a visit to this Holy mountain as they say that you haven’t truly seen Chiang Mai unless you have made the trip to the temple on Doi Suthep.

What to do in Chiang Mai

Of course there are many activities to choose from and attractions such as the Rajapruek Gardens, Chiang Mai Zoo, Night Safari, elephant camps, Tiger Kingdom and zip lining through the jungle canopy are all time favourites, along with temple visits, hill tribe villages and hot springs.

If night life is your thing then we highly recommend Nimmanhaemin Road which has bars, restaurants and cafes to suit every taste and budget. It is a great place to people watch too and is very popular with wealthy young Thais. But nightlife is not restricted to this area and you have the attractions of the Night Bazarre, Saturday and Sunday walking streets, a visit to the Loy Khro bar district and a plethora of restaurants and bars all around town and by the Mae Ping river. We love Good View and Riverside clubs which feature great food, music and atmosphere, most nights with live bands. Dance the night away by the river before returning to the comfort of your hotel!

After all of your exertions and excursions why not treat yourself to some of the wonderful spa treatments on offer? Chiang Mai is known as a spa centre for good reason and you will feel amazing after your treatments!

Did you know?

Chiang Mai has become so popular with the people of China and this has been driven, not in a small way, by the 2012 smash hit Chinese movie Lost in Thailand which became the highest grossing Chinese movie ever. A lot of the film is set in Chiang Mai and it has captured the polite charm of the Northern Thai people, the beauty of the natural landscapes and the very essence of the Buddhist culture, not to mention highlighting the city as a wonderful place to relax, enjoy and de-stress.

My Thai Wedding utilise the natural charms of this amazing city, both in our pre-wedding and wedding photos.

We also arrange handpicked tours that can be added to your package.
